Saison season has arrived. On April 8th, Allagash Brewing Company and Burial Beer Company will be celebrating saisons. In homage to this style of beer’s multiplicity of different flavors, colors, and ingredients, Allagash is partnering with a selection of breweries, bars, and brewpubs that span the country.

“Saison actually means ‘season’ in French, and refers to the fact that these beers were brewed seasonally, during winter,” said Jason Perkins, Brewmaster at Allagash. “As far as ingredients go, farmers used whatever they had on hand—barley, rye, spelt, or anything else. They then stored the beer to be drank during the hot summer months.”

Burial Beer Company will be the host to the Saison Day celebration at their 40 Collier Ave. location in Asheville, NC. They’ll be serving a wide variety of beers from breweries like Wicked Weed, Blackberry Farms, Oxbow Brewing, Allagash Brewing Company, and (of course) their own beers. The celebration kicks off at 12:00 PM at 40 Collier Avenue. Also in attendance will be one of Allagash’s own brewers, there to enjoy beers and answer any beer questions attendants may have.

In addition, Burial Beer will release two bottles:

  • Garden of Earthly Delights: a saison fermented with house mixed culture and aged on NC carrots, ginger, lemon verbena, and sea salt. Bottle conditioned. 750 ml – $16.
  • Cicadae Mortis: a mixed culture spelt saison brewed in collaboration with Kent Falls Brewing. 750ml – $16.
