Hi-Wire Brewing and neighboring restaurant/sake kura Ben’s Tune-Up have collaborated on two small-batch pumpkin beers! These brews will be available exclusively at the Hi-Wire tasting room and at Ben’s Tune-up. The supply is very limited, so be sure to come by this weekend to try them both before they’re gone!
Hi-Wire brewed a Pumpkin Saison and a Pumpkin Oatmeal Stout, both made with local, Henderson county pumpkins. For the brew, these golden-orange gourds were marinated and roasted Chef Mike Shapiro of Ben’s Tune-Up.
Here’s are the beer descriptions from Hi-Wire Brewing:
Pumpkin Saison: The goal for this beer was to recreate that well-known pumpkin pie taste but with a saison twist. To accomplish this pumpkins were roasted by Chef Mike using pumpkin pie spices and a mixture of yeasts, including a Bastogne yeast, which creates a unique kind of farmhouse funk that saisons are known for. The aroma is similar to pumpkin pie, and the dryness of this beer makes it lighter and more balanced at 5.1% ABV. The lighter choice in malts used means that all of the color in this beer comes from the pumpkin!
Pumpkin Oatmeal Stout: Think “meal of a beer” and “nightcap beer” with this hearty oatmeal stout. Chef Mike roasted the pumpkins for this rich, smooth oatmeal stout with bourbon and vanilla bean. With loads of chocolate and roasty notes, some pumpkin pie spices were added to help balance out this big, silky brew. With an ABV at 7.1%, this creative combination of full flavor, intricate spices, and pumpkin makes for the perfect Fall beer!
The fine folks at Ben’s will have DJ Milkman spinning some sweet house music in the courtyard and Hi-Wire will feature wonderful, fine folks rockin’ out in sweet costumes.
And, yes, BOTH places will have these two beers on tap JUST for this weekend only.
