If you need a last minute gift for the beer lover in your life, there are plenty of great things to be found along the Asheville Ale Trail!
A gift certificate to a local bottle shop
I know what you’re thinking…everyone in Asheville already owns way too many pint glasses, but there are plenty of more unique glassware options that are available locally. Asheville Glass Center offers a “blow your own pint glass” class and some of their in house artists sell handmade glassware. Or pick up an IPA glass from Sierra Nevada, or a wine style glass from Burial Brewing – great glasses for a beer geek to own! You can also jazz up someone’s plain pint glasses by gifting them an Oowee Koozie: they’re leather, come in multiple sizes, and support The Autism Society of North Carolina! A number of designs are available right here on the Ale Trail.
A Brewery Tour
Whether the gift recipient is a local who wants to learn more or a friend from out of town, a brewery tour is a memorable, educational, and fun gift to give. There are tons of tours to choose from based on individual tastes. LaZoom offers a “Band & Beer” tour featuring live music on the bus and stops at local breweries for $29. Asheville Brews Cruise, The Amazing Pubcycle, and Asheville Brewery Tours all offer a number of different tours ranging from $13-$60.
Homebrew Kit & Class
Hops & Vines, the West Asheville bottle and homebrew shop, is offering a holiday special for $100 that includes a full homebrew kit plus one class from the homebrewing experts at the shop. This is a great gift for someone who is just starting to homebrew or has never brewed before. Teach a man (or woman!) to brew…and he (or she) can drink for life! Find out more here.
Locally made shampoo and body products made with, you guessed it, beer! Some of their products even use local beer from Highland Brewery. BRÖÖ products can be purchased at Whole Foods, online, and at a number of local hair salons.
When in doubt, you can’t go wrong with a liquid gift for the beer drinker in your life. There are tons of great holiday beers to choose from locally – Asheville Brewing Company’s Ninjabread Man Porter, Wicked Weed’s Milk & Cookies Stout, Green Man Brewing’s Holly King, Highland Brewing’s Black Watch Double Chocolate Milk Stout, and Catawba Brewing Co’s King Winterbolt are all great choices. You don’t have to limit yourself to just holiday beers, however: Bruisin’ Ales offers pre-made “gift packs” that include three hand selected beers in a number of different themes, or you can make one for yourself. Ask the beer experts at your local bottle shop for advice on what to get – give one to drink for the holidays and one to age!
