New Belgium Brewing‘s CLips of Faith Short Film and Beer Festival returns this Friday to downtown Asheville’s Roger McGuire Green. Delighting film and craft beer enthusiasts alike, last year event was a huge hit with festival goers, raising nearly $11,000 for Asheville on Bikes.
The event takes place in Pack Square Park from 7:30-10:30 p.m., with the films starting at 9 p.m. The festival is now in it’s 5th year (although this year marks only its 3rd appearance in Asheville) is a “beer-toting, film-traveling, nonprofit-benefiting show” according to New Belgium. Travelling to 21 cities coast-to-coast, New Belgium has pledged 100% of the proceeds from beer sales to benefit local nonprofits. Since its inception in 2010, Clips has raised almost $400,000 for nonprofits across the country.
This year, New Belgium will again dedicate festival proceeds from CLips to Asheville on Bikes. AoB director Mike Sule says that “Asheville on Bikes is thrilled to continue working with New Belgium and we welcome them into our community. It’s great to have a national company championing the value of active transportation. Their commitment to active transportation broadens support for enhancing our infrastructure.” Asheville on Bikes, for those who don’t know, mission is to “cultivate the culture of urban and commuter cycling through advocacy and celebration,” working with the public, businesses and government to advance support of active transportation improvements (http://ashevilleonbikes.com).
CLips gives beer enthusiasts a chance to try some of New Belgium’s most esoteric and hard-to-find beer offerings, all while watching amateur short films created by New Belgium fans. Up to 17 varieties of beers will be available on tap, including several offerings from the popular Lips of Faith series as well as the New Belgium brewery classics you expect. For a complete tap list, check out the NBB website. Gypsy Queen Cuisine, Avery’s Dogs and Pho Ya Belly will all be on hand to serve up great local food.
