Celtic Heritage Productions, which strives to educate individuals and groups about the heritage, history, culture, and traditions of the Celtic lands through the music, has put together a celebration of Celtic heritage and music this weekend at (where else) Highland Brewing Co.
The 5th Annual WNC Highlands Celtic Festival takes place this weekend (June 13-15) at the meadow behind the brewery, bringing festival-goers an eclectic mix of traditional Celtic music, with its more traditional offshoots (such as bluegrass), and unique fusions of the ancient Celtic sounds with more modern rock and blues twist.
On Friday night there is a Free kick-off event from 4-9 p.m. with music by Marcille Wallis & Friends at 5 p.m., Rathkeltair at 7 p.m. At 9:00 pm the tap rooms closes down for the well known festival headliners Albannach, a Scottish pipes and drum ensemble, to celebrate the DVD release party of “Scotumentary” at 9:30 p.m. For the release, $40 VIP packages are available that includes a band meet and greet, autographed DVD, VIP lanyard, bumper sticker, food and screening of “Scotumentary” with the band. Visit www.albannachmusic.com for ticket. (Note: if you’re interested in this event and due to limited seating, tickets must be purchased online)
The outdoor festival official starts at 8:00 am Saturday morning and runs through 6:00 Sunday evening. Tons of bands, including Albannach, Rathkeltair, Cutthroat Shamrock, Burning Bridget Cleary, Marcille Wallis & Friends, Stirling Bridge, Montreat Scottish Pipes & Drums, Bareknuckle Quartet, and the Thistledown Tinkers. There will also be plenty of Celtic themed vendors, food, weapons demonstration, and even a border collie demonstration (which you would think is like watching paint dry, but when you get to see it in person, it’s pretty amazing). Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the door. These tickets will be good for the entire weekend, although single day tickets can be purchased (but not until Saturday morning).
