“When you have a combination movie theater and brewery, celebrating National Humor Month, which takes place in April, with classic and cult comedy movies paired with fresh interesting beers is a natural opportunity for fun.” Asheville Pizza and brewing wanted to give people the “opportunity to see movies they love on the big screen” while also creating “unique beers” that pair with each of the movies. They even asked customers to help name the beers via social media with a “Name This Movie’s Beer” contest.

The following movies will be shown at the Merrimon Avenue “Brew and View” location. Each showing is $3 and tickets are on sale NOW:

Thursday, April 6: Princess Bride showing at 7 p.m. “Ashe Brew Wish” Passion Fruit Sour Blonde release on draft at 5 p.m. ABW is a tart but refreshing sour ale made with passion fruit puree and a touch of rose hips. It’s perfect for spring time drinking (5.9% ABV). Pairs well with Fezzik’s stew, chocolate truffles, and screeching eel salad.

Thursday, April 13:  Fast Times at Ridgemont High showing at 7 p.m. “Aloha Mr. Hand” release on draft at 5 p.m. For the Pineapple Cream IPA, our brew team took an already hop-fruity IPA and conditioned it on hand cut chunks of pineapple, milk sugar, and a coconut water infusion to create Aloha Mr. Hand. This creamy, tropical IPA will go down smooth at 6.2% ABV. Pairs well with fruity things, fish & chips, and brownies.

Thursday, April 20: Half-Baked (of course) showing at 7 p.m. Hemp Pale Ale with crushed hemp seeds and Nugget hops release on draft at 5 p.m. For the Abra-Kolschdabra Hemp Pale Ale (not a Kolsch, but whatever), the crew pressed and mashed hemp seeds from the plant’s flower, which imparts a nutty flavor, but not a lot of fatty acids, so the pour has a proper head. This also helps retain the hemp’s nutritional value. Hemp Pale contains a burst of different hops, including Nugget. Pairs well with Doritos and pizza.

Thursday, April 27: Napoleon Dynamite showing at 7 p.m. “Tater Tart Saison” release on draft at 5 p.m. Tater Tart Saison is brewed with a Belgian yeast blend and a gentle malt bill of pilsner, Vienna, and flaked wheat. It’s hopped with Centennial, Lemondrop, and Citra and dry-hopped for extra aroma. Pairs well with tots, quesadillas, and llamas. “This beer has a nice balance between tart and smooth,” says Asheville Brewing head brewer Pete Langheinrich. “There’s just enough pucker.”
