UPDATE: We just spoke with owner John Campbell, who gave us an update on this weekend’s events.  Tonight (Friday Dec. 13) the Barleycorn opens its doors at 5pm, and will be open at 11am on Saturday and 4pm on Sunday.  Two especially notable beers on tap this weekend will be the “Wee-Heavy Hopster” from Lookout Brewing Co. in Black Mountain (brewed exclusively for the Barleycorn’s Grand opening, and the Lips of Faith New Belgium/Cigar City Brewing Co. collaboration, a chili ale.  Enjoy!!

Opening this weekend at the old Burgermeister location in West Asheville, the Barleycorn is a new eatery and gastropub with plans to take your pub experience to the next level by using top quality ingredients and creative cooking twists. With 15-20 taps of local craft beers and an atmosphere that welcomes community interaction, the Barleycorn is bound to be (as owners Greg and John Campbell put it) a great good place.

Brothers Greg and John want the Barleycorn to be a neighborhood place, much in the style of the old English public houses, where people can meet, share a pint, some food, and bring it all together.  Good food is there to serve the function of the form, with traditional pub fare such as bangers and mash, fish and chips, pies and stews expected on the menu, along with a variety of small plates and appetizers designed to be shared and enjoyed.

Details are a forming about the opening as we speak, so keep an eye on their facebook page for the last minute details.  Last post we saw said to expect the opening sometime Friday evening (December 13).
